TRY THE REASONING BEFORE THE COURSE

The quarter closes today.
The evidence does not.

Your CFO asks you to record revenue before quarter-end. Customer acceptance is still missing. “We have always done it this way,” they say. What is your strongest next step?

Choose a response
Read the reasoning

The strongest starting point is the evidence and applicable criteria. Identify what is known, what remains unverified and which obligations apply. Consider pressure, affected stakeholders and whether consultation or escalation is proportionate. Neither routine practice nor an unsupported allegation resolves the evidence gap. The facts and relevant standards determine the accounting conclusion.

SOUTH AFRICAN ETHICS CPD · CHECK THE SOURCE

Plan for your professional body and role.

View professional-body requirements and official sources

South African professional bodies use different CPD approaches. Identify your membership, registration and reporting period before counting hours. Check additional tax, audit or specialist obligations separately.

SAICA: reflection and competence

The published ordinary-member policy uses role-relevant development and annual ethics reflection. It does not set a general ethics-hours target. Record your learning need, relevant activity, reflection and further development. Separate registrations can add numeric requirements.

SAIPA: annual ethics learning

The published standard designation tables include two structured ethics hours in a calendar year. New membership, exemptions or deferments can change what applies. External structured learning is subject to SAIPA review and verification.

Registered auditors and tax practitioners

IRBA requires registered auditors to complete three hours of relevant ethics development each calendar year alongside its CPD framework. SAICA tax practitioners have a separate standard annual requirement of eighteen verifiable hours, including two ethics hours. Confirm any apportionment and other required subjects.

CIBA: confirm your current target

Requirements vary by designation and specialist licence, and the published policy uses the member's billing cycle. Confirm your current target, cycle and external-course recognition with CIBA. This planner does not assign a default CIBA hours target.

Official sources checked 15 October 2026 (UTC). Follow current body guidance and your individual circumstances. SHALALA does not claim professional-body approval or replace the SARS Tax Practitioner Readiness Programme or other prescribed training.
